I stared at the computer screen for about 45 minutes before realizing this was not going to happen until I had iced coffee in my paws.
There are a couple of things I could rant about this Friday morning...the way NYC smells in 95 degree weather (a big thanks to emily for letting me know that is unacceptable on a food blog) or a man who I'll call Larry that works in my dad's office and does absolutely NOTHING except go into people's offices to chit chat all day. I've worked at my dad's company for 3 weeks and I have my own office. No I'm not a spoiled brat but the receptionist desk did not have the computer software I needed to do quotations. On this lovely Friday I would just like to say to Larry "get the f out of my office."
Recipe: Spring/Summer/Fresh Ravoli Dish
Adapted from 101 Cookbooks
http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/001568.html
this dish is so good. so light. so fresh and so delicious.
Ingredients:
12 large ravoli (i used ricotta)
1 bunch of asparagus
10 oz of frozen peas
4 handfuls of baby spinach (if you go to the 101 cookbooks link you notice there is purple spinach in her photo but I just used regular green baby spinach)
1 tbs evoo (you can always add more)
1/2 c pine nuts toasted
salt
freshly grated parmesan
**side note larry just walked in. oysters...rhode island...if he had the balls he would open a restaurant...yawn, get out larry.
Step by Step:
1. generously salt your pot of water and boil it baby.
2. add the ravoli to the pot.
3. when the ravoli surfaces, add the chopped up asparagus (I would suggest cutting them 1/2 inch each) and peas.
4. when the veggies are green, drain everything, add it to the bowl with the spinach. top everything off with the toasted pine nuts and parmesan.
5. add the evoo, a little salt and toss everything.
Serving Size: this dish is great for you and your biddie (that term is for men and women)
god speed.

Crispy Sweet Potato Fries
My first recipe is not a soup or stew....sue me. False marketing I guess, but I'm working a desk job for the summer and I'm bored. 4 cups of coffee a day just to get off my ass by walking to the coffee machine, answering phone calls from pissed off people who don't want to be transfered to voicemail, they want the person who they've called NOW! NO RIGHT NOW IT'S IMPORTANT. Yeah you're really important...take a seat buddy it's just lighting fixtures. Did I mention I'm also working for my dad for the summer? He thinks he's raised two slacker kids so he's constantly breathing down my neck to make sure I'm correctly answering phones.
this is a great snack or side dish...and it's filling.

who needs another food blog anyway?
I'm really excited to do this. No really I am. I, like every other person in Napa Valley, Brooklyn, and San Fran enjoy looking at food blogs. I think the term everyone's throwing around these days to label tje hobby is "food porn." I don't know why I'm even starting this, to be honest I just typed "soup blogs" into google and like a million popped up...rude. My friends call me sassy because, well I'm a New Yorker and most people infuriate me, annoy me and just plain bother me. I'm a pretty happy person sooooo I don't plan to change my attitude or feelings towards the human population. Please don't try and change them for me either. I like to cook soups and stews because I love to have people (people whom I enjoy) in my company. Believe it or not, I like to see people happy. From the age of 12 1/2 my household consisted of my dad, my brother, our dog Yankee and myself. My dad cooked once during the week every Sunday night. It was usually the same canned peas, steak (no seasoning) and a baked potato. Not that I'm complaining...but as I grew older it became important for me to learn how to cook. I'm no master and almost all of these recipes are adapted from another blog but hey, they're damn good!
thank you to jessi, miriam, kristin and jessica who were always up my ass about starting 'soups by sassy.'
